Building Our Community, Building Your Horizon

Horizon is a small, highly motivated academic community within Richland Northeast's large and diverse culture. Our 22:1 student-teacher ratio is an ideal environment for creative, challenging learning in which students are closely involved with their teachers for their entire career at Richland Northeast, from the freshmen transition to high school to applying for college and scholarships in the senior year.

Students in the Horizon program take a variety of Honors and Advanced-Placement courses in English, Science, and History, and are expected to adhere to a well-rounded curriculum, taking other advanced classes in foreign languages, mathematics, and the arts. All Horizon classes are designed with a strong, vertically aligned scope and sequence, so that each year builds on the skills learned at previous levels.

Horizon students learn leadership skills and the importance of interacting with their community. They are expected to participate in community service and to attend cultural events throughout the year to broaden their experience and knowledge.  The Horizon student's courses at Northeast culminates in a project in the student's area of interest, undertaken with the guidance of the entire Horizon faculty.
